PhysioFit provides a detailed physiotherapy assessments to identifying the cause of the problem or symptoms. The focus is biomechanical in nature and the goal of the initial assessment is to clearly define the treatment plan. Taking an in depth history, Mechanism of Injury, types of symptoms and what makes the pain better and worse help in the identification of the driver. Our goal with every assessment is to know what the actual cause is. This helps cut through compensatory changes in the system and ultimately help the client to recover faster.
PhysioFit Physios understand that there are multiple causes of pain and dysfunction. We also know how to look for these causes and treat them effectively. We evaluate the muscular, neural, skeletal, cardiovascular, arthros (joints), ligamentous, tendinous, and myofascial systems in order to clearly define the injury. We then look above, below and all around the injured site to determine restrictions that may be causing the injured area to work harder. We call this hypo-hyper model of compensation. Hypomobile joints (joints that don’t move well) lead to surrounding joints to be hypermobile (joints that move more) or hyperactivation of muscles (increased muscle activation) compensating for the joint that isn’t moving well. When a joint is moving too much in a compensatory manner it will increase in laxity (loosen) and can lead to osteoarthritic changes due to an increase in abnormal joint surface wear and tear. If a muscle is hyperactive due to a stiff or dysfunctional joint it fatigues quicker, and is prone to overuse injuries that are commonly seen in working and sporting environments. By treating the source of the problem, pain levels decrease and proper functionality of the body part begins.
Once we have accomplished this, it is our goal to retrain not individual muscles but movement patterns, because this is how we actually move. Retraining motor patterns is essential before strengthening and increasing muscular endurance. If we skip right to strength and endurance training, it is likely the individual will adopt a habitual (usually incorrect) movement pattern. When proper movement patterns have been restored, the time to increase strength and endurance can begin. What PhysioFit professionals are instructed to ensure is that we tailor the exercise to their vocation, their sport, their recreational activities, or their activities of daily living. This ensures individuality and the likelihood that they will perform their exercise. If the exercise is designed to help them get back to what they want to be doing, the greater the chance of follow through.
When a client has reached this stage of their rehab journey, they are typically discharged. At PhysioFit it is our mission to create an environment where they want to stay and not only maintain their current level of functioning, but to increase their own fitness levels. What we will design for them is a program that they can come and perform in our functional training facility. These programs will be entirely unique to anything they have ever seen.
PhysioFit provides physiotherapy and strength and conditioning services. The physiotherapy services are delivered to a broad spectrum of musculo-skeletal injuries and consist of manual therapy to correct biomechanical dysfunction, muscular re-education to train new movement sequences, muscular strengthening and conditioning and progressing to functional exercise. PhysioFit employs highly trained manual therapists and Movement specialists, and Physios with athletic backgrounds. The operation and the delivery of providing freedom to clients depend on the fact that our Physios encompass these attributes. This will be what separates PhysioFit from the competitors.
