Preventive Care

Preventative Services, the use of Physical Therapy knowledge and skills by a physical therapist to provide education or activities in a wellness setting for the purpose of injury prevention, reduction of stress, and the promotion of fitness.

IMPROVE  YOUR  IMMUNITY

No matter  how you are getting injured is something that can cause a lot of stress. It could keep you  away  from working, spending time with your kids, playing your favorite sport and can leave you miserable. This is why Physiofit has placed a strong focus on our preventative care program. Our preventative care program is designed for individuals that lead active lifestyles and want every advantage they can get to remain healthy and companies that want to prevent injuries to their employees.

Personal Preventative Care

  • Nobody wants to get injured but many are unaware of the things they can do to prevent it. That’s why we have developed this innovative program.
  • First we start by talking to you about your current lifestyle and activity level.
  • Next we do a detailed screening and assessment that allows us to identify problem areas and things that may become a problem in the future.
  • Based on your lifestyle and our assessment our uniquely skilled team creates a program that is personalized for you that will strengthen weak points, prevent future injuries, improve performance and appearance, increase confidence and give you a better quality of life.

Business and Employee Preventative Care

  • Every business understands the importance of having healthy employees. When an employee is sick or gets injured it takes a huge toll on the business. Stress increases, production decreases, and often it can cost the business a lot of money, especially if the injury was job related.
  • Here’s the good news. We have a program targeted towards helping to reduce these situations and save your business money.
  • We start by looking at the employee’s job description and what types of injuries that may occur.
  • Next we do an in depth screening of each employee involved to determine where their most likely to have problems.
  • Based on their job description and our screening process we develop a personalized program for your staff.
  • Your staff will be healthier, have more energy, be happier and will be far less likely to be injured on the job.
  • What does this mean for your business? More efficient and productive staff, less people calling into work, less money spent on job related injuries, and most important increase profits.

PREVENT NCD’S

Posture Related Pain and Ergonomics

The human body is designed to keep moving, but in modern society we tend to stay in static postures for extended periods of time – sitting at computers, driving in cars, sitting on the couch watching TV. When this happens stress slowly builds up, especially when the postures we adopt are not ideal. When the body is placed in a non optimal posture, load, even though it is relatively low, is directed through soft tissue rather than the bones of the spine. When this low load is applied over an extended period of time, the soft tissue starts to lengthen, which can often cause pain. Poor postural habits also result in altered muscle function which make it harder to improve posture. This results in a vicious cycle that results in worse posture and a spiral into worsening pain.

The solution to this problem is to firstly identify the poor postural habits and altered muscle function, and instigate specific rehabilitation exercises to improve muscle function. This will often involve both flexibility and strengthening exercise to ensure that you are able to get into correct posture, as well have the strength and control to maintain it.

The second, yet equally important, step in the process is to assess your work station, or where ever you spend a lot of time, and adjust the space to facilitate correct posture. This is called ergonomics. Too often we adjust our body to the environment, we need to adjust the environment to our bodies. No 2 people are exactly the same, therefore there is no “one size fits all” approach to work station set ups, it must be individualised.

The Physios at Physiofit are able to not only provide the rehabilitation program to address your specific postural needs, we are also able to advise on work station set ups to facailitate correct posture and body alignment.
